Tottenham Manager Thomas Frank Labels Goalkeeper Booers 'Not True Genuine Fans'
The Cottagers Begin Powerfully to Defeat Tottenham and Increase Pressure on the Manager
Spurs supporters who jeered keeper Guglielmo Vicario were informed later "they can't be real Tottenham fans" by boss Frank.
Tottenham conceded two goals in the first initial moments to fall 2-1 to Fulham, registering their tenth Premier League at home loss of 2025.
But the primary talking point was the visitors' next goal when Vicario lost possession well outside his box.
The goalkeeper came out to handle a long ball and took the ball towards the touchline.
However, instead of kicking it into touch, the Italian turned and attempted to clear away, but slipped as the ball glanced off Harry Wilson and was controlled by King.
The forward laid the ball off to Welsh midfielder Harry Wilson, who bent a shot into the goal from the sideline measured at 36.6 metres.
Moments later when the ball went to the keeper again, a number of Spurs supporters booed him.
Spurs were booed off at half-time, with the club 2-0 behind, and once more at full-time.
One of those booing sessions truly angered the manager.
"I heard some of our supporters apparently booed the situation and booed following, which, in my view is completely unacceptable," the Dane commented regarding the fans' reaction to his shot-stopper.
"[They] can't be true Spurs supporters that act that way. Fair enough jeering following the match, no problem, but when we are playing, we are backing each other, we are with each other moving ahead."
Kenny Tete had handed the visitors a fourth-minute advantage prior to Wilson's strike – with Kudus scoring for Spurs in an better second period performance.
Former top-flight keeper Hart remarked that the next score was "completely preventable".
"I certainly understand the fans' disappointment," the ex-keeper added. "I know the role the keeper is performing. He is a great squad member, he's a true figure in the locker room but in the end you are going to be judged by your decisions.
"He was heavily involved in what turned out to be the decisive goal."
'It is Part of Football, I'm a Big Man'
Frank Stood Up For His Keeper Guglielmo Vicario Following the Match
Italian national team the keeper is in his third campaign with Spurs.
The 29-year-old said following the match that he had to take the criticism.
"The second goal was a error of mine, I take responsibility for it," he said.
"The intent was to clear the ball long and I simply struck the ball in a bad way. It was an even bigger challenge to climb."
He stated being booed "comes with football".
"I'm a big man, what can I say?" he continued. "We can't be influenced by the situation in the stands. The fans have the right to do as they see fit.
"It's on the team to remain more composed, to concentrate on our own performance. The team is lacking in composure and poise to overturn outcomes. This match is a poor loss and it is hard to accept."
'I Was Surprised No One Went Back to the Goal Line'
In spite of the keeper's mistake, it was far from an easy goal for Harry Wilson to score.
In fact it was the second most distant top division score of the campaign – after Tyler Adams' 43.3 metre goal for the Cherries against the Black Cats, which incidentally too came on the same day.
Wilson stated he was "a little bit taken aback" that he still had an open goal to aim for.
10 moments elapsed between Vicario exiting of his area and the midfielder striking – which was five seconds after the kick.
"I felt like the keeper was away from the area for a long time," he said.
"I was surprised none of the back four returned to the goal line. When none of them covered the net, my eyes sparked somewhat.
"[Destiny] Udogie fell too, which allowed me a little extra time. Then it was solely about attempting to make the correct connection and get it on target. I felt a positive sense, as soon as it came off my foot, that it was heading in."
'During in a Poor Run, All Appears to Go Against You'
Jeering Whilst We Are Still Playing Is Totally Unjustifiable - the Manager
While the keeper's mistake led headlines, this was an overall poor day for Tottenham to extend their home ground struggles.
This was their tenth home loss of the year in the Premier League, a joint club record along with nineteen ninety-four and 2003.
They still have home fixtures against Frank's old side Brentford and champions the Reds to come prior to the end of the year.
Just a single of those victories have occurred since the manager replaced Ange Postecoglou in the off-season.
"When you're down 2-0 following the opening, there is a mountain to overcome," said the boss.
"When you're in a poor run, all aspects appears to work against you too – the opening was a redirected attempt, the second is a error from Vic.
"The outcome leaves us in a position where we have suffered an additional match. Each fixture has a single narrative, today we were defeated in the early stages.
"We simply need to continue striving. The second half was significantly improved and with luck something we can use to learn."
Tottenham have lost 4 consecutive at home London derbies for the first time in the top division.
And they are recording nine point five attempts and three point two efforts on goal per match in the Premier League – their lowest rates on file in a one season (dating back to the 2003-04 season).
Former Fulham midfielder Murphy stated that the manager has to ride the storm.
"He must accept the criticism," Murphy remarked. "He's accepted a prestigious role at a huge team with enormous anticipation. There is scrutiny and duty that accompanies that.
"Their showings at home have been disappointing and they have to improve {quickly|
