This Special Release Pokémon Card Seeks to Be Super Effective Against Resellers
Marking the arrival of a captivating new book Pokécology: An Illustrated Guide to Pokémon Ecology, an exciting partnership has been formed. Pokémon's creators and London's Natural History Museum are opening a pop-up shop stocked with exclusive items. Fans can look forward to products like plush toys, art prints, and writing supplies all inspired by the institution's theme. For collectors, however, will be a limited-edition Pikachu card, given as a free bonus for the pop-up. This shop will operate from on-site at the museum and online from January 26 to April 19.
The Book Behind the Collaboration
Pokécology: An Illustrated Guide to Pokémon Ecology represents a highly anticipated tome filled with beautiful illustrations depicting creatures in their wild environments. It's essentially is the kind of research an in-world scientist could produce after adventurers submit their data, or a naturalist's journal could have sketched had the Galapagos were populated by flying-types instead of finches. A key appeal lies in the book's scholarly treatment, presenting Pokémon as a legitimate scientific inquiry. Author Yoshinari Yonehara together with illustrator Chihiro Kinoshita each possess PhDs in animal behavior and ecology.
Why This Special Card Stand Out
The company regularly for The Pokémon Company to release promos celebrating major tournaments or brand collaborations. A lot such promotional cards often feature the iconic electric rodent that acts as the franchise mascot. The factor setting this new promotion apart however, is the distinctly bigger dimensions. Although precise specs have not been publicly disclosed, its distribution is guaranteed to be highly restricted, with fans limited to just one card per purchase.
Curbing Speculator Activity
Per an official announcement, a portion of the pop-up items may also be available outside the institution itself. However, broader availability will only be select retailers within the UK. Importantly, fans will not be able to acquire this promo through the online Pokémon Center. While reseller interest is a given, the setup suggests they're going to have trouble hoarding mass quantities this time around. For those unable to attend, consider the upcoming fossil-themed display headed to the Windy City later this year.
"Every penny from purchases made in the Museum shop and its web shop, which covers Pokémon products, support the Natural History Museum’s charitable mission. That encompasses the efforts of 400 scientists who are scientific inquiry and finding solutions to the global ecological crisis," it notes.
