Prince Andrew surrenders his title as Duke of York.
Prince Andrew is giving up his titles, such as the Duke of York, he has announced in a personal statement.
He has been under increasing attention over his associations with convicted criminal the financier, with demands for the Palace to take steps against him.
That now seems to have led to the figure deciding to of his own accord give up his honors and to surrender membership of the prestigious order.
In his message he said he continued to "firmly refute the claims against me".
"In talks with the sovereign, and my immediate and broader family, we have concluded the continued claims about me take away from the work of His Majesty and the royal household," said a statement from the royal.
"I have decided, as I always have, to put my obligation to my kin and nation first.
"I support my decision five years ago to withdraw from royal engagements.
"With His Majesty's approval, we feel I must now go a step further. I will therefore no longer employ my title or the awards which have been bestowed on me. As I have said earlier, I strongly refute the allegations against me."
The royal has encountered a number of issues, such as a court case he resolved with the plaintiff, doubts about his economic affairs and his association with an accused foreign agent.
He will stay a royal - but will cease to be the Duke of York, a title granted from his the late Queen, the Queen Elizabeth II.
Andrew had already ceased to be a "active member" and had lost the use of his His Royal Highness designation and no longer appeared at state occasions. His role now will be even more diminished.
His former spouse will be known as Sarah Ferguson and no longer the Duchess, but their daughters will carry on to have the title of princesses.
Prince Andrew has been under strong attention over his connections with convicted sex offender Epstein, more lately involving inquiries about when he had really severed communication.
In his television appearance, he had said that he had cut off all links with the financier after they had been pictured together in the city in the end of 2010.
But emails sent in the following year later came to light indicating that the prince had privately remained in touch with Epstein, including swapping a communication: "Keep in close touch and we'll meet again soon!"
There had been increasing annoyance in the royal household at the scandals that continued to envelop the prince.
Soon a late publication by the accuser will be issued which is anticipated to cast further attention on the royal's connection with the plaintiff and Jeffrey Epstein.
