Pat Bamford Signs With the Blades After Initiating Abusive Chants Targeting Manager Chris Wilder
Patrick Bamford is now a member of the Championship side just seven months following instigating insulting chants directed at their manager, Wilder.
This experienced striker, a free agent since leaving Leeds, has agreed to a agreement with the Championship club in difficulty until January. Bamford's lengthy spell with Leeds was ended amicably in August.
One of Bamford’s last memorable actions while at Leeds was to lead insulting chants about Wilder during Leeds' promotion party this spring. Now, the former England player will feature under Wilder as the Blades’ manager seeks to lift the team he loves away from the bottom places.
Previous History Between Bamford & Wilder
Both men had history before Leeds moved up to the Premier League the previous campaign while Sheffield United were defeated in the promotion decider to Sunderland. The manager described the forward as “a muppet” back when the situation was different in 2018-19 and the Blades secured direct promotion whereas Leeds missed out in the playoffs.
Reconciliation & Moving Forward
All appears has been resolved with Sheffield United, the Championship’s lowest scorers, in desperate need of a boost in attack and Bamford hoping to rejuvenate his playing days.
The song about Wilder spread widely in April. An apologetic Patrick along with Leeds boss, Daniel Farke, called the Sheffield United manager the next day.
Chris Wilder said at the time: “Had a conversation with Patrick recently and I have no issue at all with it. I’m not sure about the language from a fellow pro! However I valued and respected him calling me.
“We had a short while and similarly I spoke to Daniel as well and had a half-hour chat together and he is a great person, a top guy. When I was playing we would give it and take it and that is part and parcel of the game at every level, including a Sunday morning. I've got absolutely no issue. I'm fine with the situation and I said that to Pat.”
Recent Career Struggles
Bamford featured in 18 games with Leeds United in the previous campaign however the former Forest, Chelsea & Middlesbrough striker has faced difficulties with fitness issues in recent years.
