Manchester United Set to Sign German Striker Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich

The Women's Super League club are finalising sealing the deal for prolific German forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Major Acquisition for the WSL Side

The forward, with six months remaining on her contract, has been a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. She has scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival is viewed as a major signing for the Women’s Super League team.

Her exit from Munich has been anticipated after she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s supporters after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

Reports in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its top strikers. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.

Consistent Goalscoring to Boost the Forward Line

The experienced striker's signing should represent a significant boost to United’s forward line. She has been highly reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Carrington

Securing the German international coincides with a period when the club appear to be gathering positive momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes feature securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the mid-season window has seen additional business:

  1. The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since joining in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's extension, a senior figure commented: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having arrived from a club in the American league, added: “You can sense how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
