Liverpool Will Not Change Forward-Thinking Philosophy In the Face of Poor Run of Form, Declares Slot

The Dutch manager has revealed that the Anfield decision-makers are aligned with his perspective regarding the team's slump and he has no intention of discarding their offensive approach in search of a improvement. The manager conceded that six defeats in seven outings was unacceptable ahead of Saturday's match against Aston Villa.

Increasing Scrutiny Amid Difficult Period

The manager acknowledged the scrutiny was intense before his rotated squad suffered Carabao Cup elimination against Crystal Palace. However, he insisted that this urgency to stop the losing streak is not coming from the team's proprietors or football administration following a substantial investment of approximately £450 million.

"Our views align," commented the manager, whose side will meet Los Blancos in the European competition and visit the Citizens in the domestic competition.

Team Strength Remains Unquestioned

The coach is convinced his team "have an unbelievable squad if they are fully healthy and completely set for the schedule ahead". He noted that the summer investment in players such as Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak, who is expected to be sidelined again against Villa through physical problems, had left the club "in such a good place for the near future and the long-term future".

Team Cohesion Issues

When asked why his team were struggling to integrate, he answered: "That's not particularly helpful. 'What's causing this?' I offer insights and people say I'm coming up with excuses. I can identify several explanations why we are struggling for victories or suffering defeats as we do but, as I consistently state, there are never enough excuses to have a results sequence as we had now."

  • Even if I could come up with numerous reasons
  • Leading this club you should not suffer defeats
  • Unfortunately six out of seven

Backline Performance

Only the Lancashire club (21) have conceded more clear opportunities from open play this season than Slot's team (19). The table-toppers, Arsenal, have conceded only two. Yet the manager disputes the team has been overly exposed and asserts there is no reason to abandon offensive philosophy for a defensive approach after ten matches without a shutout.

"In my view we're not conceding a lot of chances so I find no basis to modify our philosophy entirely but we have to enhance in not conceding goals," he said.

Specific Instances

"When facing United, how many openings did we give up? When playing Frankfurt when we were leading 3-1, we hardly conceded a attempt on goal. In each fixture we have competed in we haven't given up a lot of chances. Not at all. We do concede a bit more than the prior term but that is related to us being behind early so you play more openly. But overall I don't believe that our problem is that we concede too many chances. Our issue is we are unable to finish the opportunities we generate."
