The distinguished British actress Dame Helen, previously recipient of an Oscar, four Baftas, Golden Globe wins, five Emmys, and a Tony, will soon earn an additional esteemed prize to her trophy case: the Cecil B. DeMille Globes' lifetime honor.

Award Event

Mirren, eighty, who was made a dame in 2003 and honored as a BAFTA fellow in the year 2014, will pick up the accolade at an event on the eighth of January, three days before the main Golden Globes occur, as part of a ceremony promoted by the organization as the Golden Eve event.

This will also include the presentation of the organization’s Carol Burnett award for television achievement, the honoree for which remains unannounced. Last year’s winners were Viola Davis and Ted Danson.

“Mirren stands as a force of nature, and her career is truly exceptional,” remarked the Golden Globes president, president of the Golden Globes. “Her brilliant portrayals and commitment to her craft constantly motivate generations of artists and audiences alike. We are deeply honored to present her with this lifetime achievement honor.”

Professional Journey

Mirren gained prominence back in the 70s through significant parts in stage productions at London’s West End and with the Royal Shakespeare Company as well as in movies like O Lucky Man!, Caligula & The Long Good Friday.

Back in the 90s, her lead performance in the investigative show Prime Suspect broadened her fanbase further. Other key films feature Excalibur, The Madness of King George, The Cook, the Thief, His Wife and Her Lover, Gosford Park & Calendar Girls.

She earned an Academy Award for her portrayal as Elizabeth II in 2006 film The Queen, a character she reprised during 2013 in The Audience, Peter Morgan’s play regarding the encounters involving the monarch and prime minister Margaret Thatcher, and for which she received a Tony Award during 2015.

• Later-career movies comprise Hitchcock, The Last Station, Woman in Gold, The Debt, Golda and Barbie, which she narrated.
• Her role in the streaming adaptation of The Thursday Murder Club has also been praised and awards buzz is growing around her performance as an ailing family head in the film by Kate Winslet directorial debut, Goodbye June.
• In the coming year, Mirren will be seen as Patricia Highsmith in the drama by Anton Corbijn, Switzerland.

Golden Globe nominations will be declared December 8, featuring the film by Paul Thomas Anderson One Battle After Another, Chloé Zhao’s Hamnet and Ryan Coogler’s Sinners expected to feature heavily.
