Ex British Serviceman Charged of Killing Kenya Female Appears in Court

A man has shown up before a judge as extradition proceedings commenced in the legal matter of Agnes Wanjiru, a Kenyan national, a Kenyan woman who was found dead near a UK military installation in 2012.

Purkiss, thirty-eight, who is originally from the Manchester area, showed up in the Westminster court on Friday, and told the court he would challenge the deportation. Reports indicate that he was taken into custody on the evening of Thursday.

A warrant for arrest for the suspect was released by a Kenyan court in Nairobi in the month of September. The prosecution informed the Kenyan judiciary that Purkiss had been facing a one count, of killing, and that the Kenyan authorities would request his deportation to stand trial.

The defendant served formerly as a medical attendant with the Lancaster Regiment, the infantry regiment for the northwestern England, including on missions to Afghanistan.

The victim, 21, a beautician who had a baby daughter, went missing after a night on the town, and her corpse was located after two months in the premises of the accommodation where she had last been seen.

Not a single person had previously been detained or accused in relation to her demise. His detention followed a recent detective probe, which followed a report in 2021 by a Sunday newspaper, in which the newspaper approached several serving and ex-military personnel in the military group.

This inquiry has been led by investigators from Kenya, which, under a bilateral defence agreement, retains jurisdiction in the case.
