Disaster Occurs as Inadvertent Blast at Law Enforcement Facility in Kashmir Region Under Indian Control Takes Nine Fatalities
A tragic blast at a security post in Indian-administered Kashmir has caused the fatalities of nine people and harm to thirty-two more, according to police declarations.
The incident happened when a stockpile of confiscated explosives accidentally blew up during handling procedures.
Chronology of Incidents
The explosion happened on the evening of Friday at the Nowgam law enforcement facility, where detonation agents taken from Faridabad region in the northern territory of Haryana state were being stored temporarily.
Area law enforcement head declared that the blast materials were scheduled for scientific analysis when a "deeply regrettable" mishap during handling resulted in their blast at approximately 23:20 in the evening.
Official Statements
Police authorities asserted that this was an "accidental detonation" and rather than a militant action. "Alternative theories regarding the reason of this incident is unneeded," stressed the law enforcement head during a media conference.
The police station experienced significant harm from the blast, with adjacent buildings also being impacted by the strong explosion.
Consequences and Casualties
Multiple vehicles were "consumed by fire and reduced to charred husks, with wreckage spread across the area," according to official reports.
"The force of the blast was so extreme that some human remains were recovered from close-by residences, approximately between 100 and 200 meters from the law enforcement facility," stated an police contact.
The bulk of the fatalities were police officers, along with technical investigation team, two crime scene photographers, and a clothing professional who was present with the personnel.
Administration Reaction
The area's Administrative Head stated condolences and announced that an investigation had been commissioned into the devastating event.
"I have directed a probe to determine the cause of the inadvertent detonation. Deeply anguished by the fatalities of important persons due to extremely tragic accidental blast at Nowgam law enforcement facility in Srinagar city. My condolences to the grieving relatives. I pray for rapid recuperation of the harmed," stated the authority on online channels.
