Alphabet Plans Investment of $15bn to Establish Artificial Intelligence Data Center in India
Google's parent company the Alphabet conglomerate will invest $15 billion for constructing an artificial intelligence data center in the state of Andhra Pradesh in southern India.
This center, to be established in the coastal city of the city of Visakhapatnam, is set to become a component of the worldwide network of Google of AI centers spread across twelve different countries.
"It's the largest artificial intelligence center that we are going to be investing in worldwide, apart from the US," Google Cloud's chief executive announced at an conference in the capital city of Delhi recently, mentioning that the financial commitment is to be distributed across the coming five years.
The revelation arrives during a period President Trump of the United States has been urging companies from the United States to prioritise domestic investment.
India's Increasing Significance in AI Infrastructure
The country has risen as a prime location for AI data centers. India's low data costs and swiftly increasing digital audience have made it a focal point for AI and cloud growth for major tech firms.
"This center will deliver our pioneering tech solutions to businesses and consumers in the country, enhancing artificial intelligence advancement and stimulating expansion across the country," commented Alphabet's chief executive Sundar Pichai.
Initiative Particulars
A definitive arrangement to finalise the project is set to be signed on Tuesday, state authorities announced.
"This represents a significant advancement for our state's technological advancement, progress, and worldwide position," remarked the technology official Nara Lokesh.
The venture will integrate cloud and AI infrastructure with renewable energy systems and an broader fiber-optic system.
Data Infrastructure Plans
The project forms part of the local administration's plan to establish six gigawatts of data center capability by 2029.
Data centers are tangible infrastructures that house the networking and computing devices that companies use to gather, analyze, save, and share information.
These include hosting servers, data storage systems and network equipment like routers and firewalls, combined with the necessary power and cooling systems to run them.
Investment Incentives
Across Andhra Pradesh, the local administration has been providing reduced-cost property and electricity to draw international investors.
Industry Growth
The country's computing facility market has expanded quickly in the recent half-decade, exceeding the 1GW capability milestone in the year 2024 and almost increasing threefold its 2019 level.
