Investigative Photograph
An esteemed Russian military figure has been declared dead following an explosion in Moscow, according to official statements.
The incident took place on Monday morning when an bomb planted beneath a vehicle was set off, resulting in the death of Lieutenant General Fanil Sarvarov.
Sarvarov held the position of the head of the armed forces' operational training department.
Authorities mentioned that one line of inquiry involves the potential involvement of Ukrainian intelligence services. At this time, Ukraine has remained silent.
Location of the Attack
Officials have been sent to the scene, which is understood to be in a south district of the city.
Accounts state the explosion took place in a vehicle lot near a residential building.
Pattern of Assaults
Since the onset of the extensive conflict in Ukraine, a series of Russian military personnel have been subjected to assaults within Moscow.
This new event comes after other high-profile incidents, including:
- General Yaroslav Moskalik was killed in a vehicle explosion in Moscow earlier this year.
- General Igor Kirillov was killed in late 2024 when a bomb placed on a scooter was set off from a distance.
While a source from Ukraine previously linked Kirillov's death to Ukraine's security service, such allegations are rarely formally acknowledged as a matter of standard practice.
Hostilities has increasingly seen clandestine operations extending into the heart of the Russian capital.
The probe into General Sarvarov's death continues to be active.
